Andy Warhol made a series of self-portraits throughout his career, beginning in 1964 and continuing until his death in 1987. This piece is from a series of six that Warhol made in 1986, and is of Warhol in his ‘fright wig’, the famous silver wig he often wore in later years. Warhol made each picture in the series a different colour; this piece from Tate’s collection is shown in red.
